Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, the strong leader of the Reform and Partnership Team, at the Declaration Rally of Mahmoud Karzai: The future of the people is decided by people’s vote, not by fraud!

Continuing on the wave of declarations of support from political parties, social groups and national figures for the Reform and Partnership Team, now the Party of National Participation under the leadership of Mahmoud Karzai, brother of Hamid Karzai, President of Afghanistan, declared support for the Reform and Partnership Team in a large rally at the Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul.

In his speech, Mahmoud Karzai cited Dr. Abdullah’s character as the most important factor in his decision to join.  According to him, in the last two elections and in spite of many opportunities for joining in the political power, Dr. Abdullah out of respect for the Afghan people steadfastly refused political deals and by establishing the National Coalition of Afghanistan formed the largest political opposition.

While counting unemployment and economic recession as the biggest problems Karzai described the building of hydroelectric dams from internal sources, paving new and old roads, mining, development of services for citizen’s well being as major demands of his team and common points with the Reform and Partnership Team.

Mr. Karzai insisted that the private sector has a major impact on job creation and asked that the sources of production be given to the private sector.

He further pointed that national unity, political stability and economic growth are at the top of both his party’s goals and those of the Reform and Partnership Team’s - - a fact that helped him decide in favor of this team.

Dr. Abdullah appreciated Mahmoud Karzai’s support and added that he was happy to be witnessing the joining of another large and influential group to the Reform and Partnership Team and that all of these teams have a common goal of important goal of bettering the country.

He agreed that in certain areas there have been progress but added that unfortunately our people are still experiencing war, unemployment, poverty and uncertainty for their future.

He said under these circumstances going to the polls and casting their vote and electing their future leader, is the biggest opportunity that he hopes the people use and construct their own future themselves.

The leader of the Reform and Partnership Team declared a great booster of people’s hope the joining of national personalities who have been involved from up close in the rebuilding of Afghanistan also welcomed the joining of the Green Trend of Afghanistan’s Amrullah Saleh and Mohammad Qorban Haqjo, Chair of the Chamber of Commerce.

He said that Haqjo’s resignation from the Chamber of Commerce that is a private enterprise, a good lesson for those civil servants who are abusing their government positions for the benefit of one candidate, which is against the national interests of people of Afghanistan.

The presidential candidate also criticized the rumor mongering that says that our team lacks a specific economic program and said that for the last two months the Reform and Partnership Team has publically distributed its economic platform and it is the attraction of such programs that is responsible for people like Haqjo to resign from their positions and come to our team.

He criticized the activities of some of the cabinet ministers especially three of them who have held the post of the finance minister and added that they against the national interests use the national budget in the election campaign of a specific candidate, which has caused major problems for some of civil servants in some of the ministries.

He said that in our team while we work on the basis of a specific platform and do not give empty promises to anyone we consider national unity one of our most important goals and will not allow anyone to create discord.

At the same time Dr. Abdullah considered little the request of those who want a religious debate and added that “We respect our people. Our being an Afghan and a Muslim are not in question. We were born in this land, we grew up here, we have defended our land and our religious beliefs, and now also we are committed to whatever we can to be in the service of our people.”

The future president of Afghanistan condemned the baseless rumors from adventuresome quarters, declared that “we have not come here to create concern for our people. We assure every one of our people that we will compete in a sound manner and on the basis of our national interests. We are confident that the victorious team is the one that is truthful in its service to the people of Afghanistan.”

Dr. Abdullah touched on the danger that is facing the country’s banking system because of the problems in the money laundering law. He said it is because of laziness and a lack of interest on the part of the responsible authorities. He asked the Parliament to take up this responsibility and pass the law properly.

He said he thinks the biggest challenge to his team and his future government would be that on one hand the coffers of the government become empty and on the other the country’s banking system be put in the international black list and all banking transactions would stop.

He reiterated that he and his team will accept any action that is in the interests of the people and consistent with the constitution.

Dr. Abdullah explained that the signing of the security agreement with the United States will be a top priority of his government.
