Today's Press Conference: the Justice, Equality, and Construction Team has declared their support for the Reform and Partnership Team!

Today's press conference started with the recitation of the Holy Quran and the playing of the National Anthem. Afterwards, Mr. Faisal from the Justice, Equality and Construction Team (JECT) and Mr. Haidari from the Reform and Partnership Team read the Pashto and Persian versions of the signed agreement.

Subsequently Dr. Zalmay Rassoul delivered his speech. He started by thanking Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, the members of both teams, General Gulagha Sherzai, and Prince Mirwais Zahir. He spoke about his programs and endeavors during the election campaign. Additionally, he condemned violence and prejudice towards any group and stressed how Afghanistan is in the need of unity at this crucial time. He told the audience that his team (JECT) received more than a million votes and that from now on, he will fully support Dr. Abdullah Abdullah and the Reform and Partnership team. he explained about his past acquaintance with Dr. Abdullah during the Bonn Conference and when Dr. Abdullah was the Foreign Minister. He recounted how Dr. Abdullah was a trustful co-worker and how he has positive memories from that era. At the end of his speech, he repeated again by saying: "even though many from my team took different decisions and are not here today, and I personally respect their decision but I for the sake of national unity and for the formation of an efficient government, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah has my full support and I ask my followers to vote for him if a run-off happens".

Lastly, Dr. Abdullah was asked to deliver his speech. Dr Abdullah opened his speech by praising God almighty and recited a verse from the Holy Quran. He then he greeted and thanked Dr. Zalmay Rassoul, Salahuddin Rabbani, General Gulagha Sherzai, his running-mates, Mrs. Habiba Sarabi, Alemi Balkhi, Mr. Zare' and everyone else who was present there. Thereafter, he explained how the joining of Dr. Zalmay and his team is another positive and historic step towards the consolidation of unity amongst the people of Afghanistan and congratulated the people for witnessing this day. Additionally, he stated that this alliance between the two teams is a step towards the achievement of the dreams and aspirations of our martyrs and people. Dr Abdullah said: “a few days ago we witnessed the joining of the Peace and Reconstruction team under Mr. Sherzai's leadership to our team and today we are witnessing this great event". Furthermore, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah called upon the electoral commissions to constructively and transparently to accomplish their tasks that were assigned by the election law and the constitution. He stressed how none of the commissions have so far given any reasonable answer to his team's questions and concerns. Additionally, he told the commissions that he will not break the promise he made to the people of Afghanistan that if anyone tries to question and invalidate their votes, he will not tolerate it. Dr. Abdullah Reminded the audience that today is as important as Election Day. Like Dr. Rassoul, he reminded everyone that his friendship with Dr. Rassoul dates back when he was the representative of the United National Front and Dr. Rassoul was the representative of the Rome group at the Bonn Conference. In addition, he stated that this alliance is formed on the basis of shared views and values and for the improvement and reconstruction of the State of Afghanistan. Dr Abdullah closed his speech by praying for the victims of the floods and landside. He prayed for the souls of the dead and for the survivors of these natural disasters.

The event ended when they announced that a committee composed of members from both teams will be formed for the coordination of affairs such as media, transition of power, finance...etc
